“About Us – Kasterlyn Kennels”
It all started many years ago with a yellow girl (Flit) I purchased from Betty and Barry Henry (Quaylbeau Labradors). Once bitten by the Labrador bug you cannot be cured. My first girl came with me when I married and moved to Townsville, in Northern Australia. Here my husband and I started obedience and showing with Flit as a hobby. Unfortunately our lovely girl passed away from cancer so we contacted Betty and Barry and they sent us “Aust Ch Quaylbeau Rock N Roll” (Essie).
This was the start of “Kasterlyn” Labradors. It was from Essie that we were able to breed our beautiful black boy “Grand Champion Kasterlyn Dark Solitaire” (Toby).
We had a lot of fun showing Toby. Toby was one of those “Once in a Lifetime” dogs that not only loved shows but had a real ring presence. As Toby was growing up, he consistently won in all classes and his successes included many ‘Best in Show and Runner Up in Show’ awards. Toby also won many ‘Puppy & Dog of the Year’ Awards, the Janvali, the Tesdin and Victorian Gundog Club Annual Trophies. He liked to perform whenever asked and had many fans around the show ring – Toby loved people especially their pockets. Toby I’m sure, thought he was human; he was a beloved member of our family and is sadly missed.
His daughter “Ch Kasterlyn Topaz Moon” – Gypsy helped to keep her sire’s legacy alive when she won the challenge at Melbourne Royal in 2003 from a total bitch entry of 92.Over the years we have imported several dogs from New Zealand mainly from Steve and Gai Meredith (Mervale), and we had the pleasure of having Aust and NZ Champion Mervale Paper Moon –“Purdy” live with us until she passed away quite suddenly 3 years ago.Our current girls – Aust Ch Kasterlyn Nobody’s Fool and Kasterlyn Addicted to Love are decedents from these lovely dogs.
We have recently imported 2 dogs, Port of Nessie Jazz Juice (Imp Hungary) – Annuska and Silronray’s Everything Cared Of (Imp France) – Remy. These two dogs carry lines that we believe will complement our own successful breeding stock to help improve the true Labrador type and characteristics for the future.
